Review: Aqua Marina Face Cleanser by LUSH-great for sensitive skin!

I wouldn’t necessarily consider my face sensitive. It is acne prone, oily, etc- yet it can tolerate many things. We’re talking glycolic, peels- the whole nine yards. That didn’t stop me from purchasing Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner by LUSH

How timely! The temps here in NYC are on a down turn. Heat from the radiators drain every ounce of moisture from the skin….Le sigh. It affects our hair and of course our skin. For hair, aside from not using styling products to further dry the hair, deep conditioners restore moisture and keep the strands hydrated. Read the rest of this entry »

Product Review: LUSH Peace Massage Bar- pics included

No need to keep telling you how in love I am with LUSH…….Ah what the hell, who am I kidding? I went there today after work just to stock up on a few of my faves.

The Peace Massage bar was one of the products I received last week during the press event. Many of LUSH’s products have stories behind them, and this one is no different. This bar was inspired by the London riots, with the thought that this bar could bring peace to your world. I’ll drink to that, especially after navigating the big apple all day. One of the main ingredients is olive oil- a known hydrating, good for you oil.

LUSH’s instructions:

“Simply rub and wish for peace”.

How cute and fitting for the times, no?

I don’t have a list of other ingredients, or what scents this is made up of- but I’m drawn to it. It has an earthy scent that I find calming and very relaxing. It moisturizes like a dream. The scent lingers just enough, yet doesn’t smell medicinal. I fancy using it on my feet at bedtime and then wearing a pair of fluffy socks. Although they are not identical in smell, I think if you enjoy the  Karma scent you would really enjoy the Peace Massage Bar.

It is priced at $12.95. I would suggest purchasing the reusable tin to store it in to protect it from melting. The bar will be available for purchase November 25th in stores and online.

Product Rave: Belle Butters Unyevu Butter- a must for dry hair and skin

I talked about Belle Butters a couple of months ago here. The products grabbed my interest- handmade and contain great ingredients.

I have had a chance to use a couple of the products in my current routine and I’m impressed! The temperature drop and my color treated hair has been quite the recipe for dry strands.

The Unrevu butter has added and maintained moisture in my hair without leaving it greasy a la Darrel on “Coming to America”. I’ve tried it right after shampooing, on dry hair and using it while twisting my hair. I have found best results came from using on damp hair at night before I go to bed, also on the rare occasion that I twist. The next day I awake to hydrated hair. My hair is color treated and only gets dryer in the winter- this really eases the abuse I put my hair through.

From Tasha, creator of Belle Butters;

I used a super combo of butters: shea, mango and avocado. I then added neem oil which helps relieved an irritated scalp, thickens hair and removes dandruff. Apricot kernel oil is rich in vitamins A and E and sunflower oil retains moisture and is an emollient for the skin.

The prices are reasonable at $12 for 4 oz. I found myself going through this pretty fast. Good news is that Tasha can custom make what your heart desires……I reckon that means I need to super size my next order.

Review: Lush Cosmetics Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask- perfect for clarifying the skin!

Lush isn’t kidding when they said their products are addicting. That could actually be an understatement. I have used the Brazened Honey Mask before, but I failed to grab another on previous visits to the store. Last weekend one of the very kind girls at the Herald’s Square location gave me a  couple of masks. One was my beloved Brazened Honey mask.

I use this mask at night after a shower when my pores are open and I can get better efficiency of the product. This mask claims to deep clean and balance the skin. Both I experienced straight away. I apply while my skin is still a tiny bit damp and let it sit for about 10 minutes. The scent is refreshing and calming. I rinse with a clean, warm cloth.

Here is what Lush says of this mask:

Brazened Honey was inspired by traditional Indian ayurvedic principles, which put emphasis on balance as the foundation to health.  Our deepest cleansing mask, Helen combined fresh free range eggs and honey to soften, with astringent lime oil, antiseptic rosemary and exfoliating ground almonds.

This mask is a part of their fresh face mask line, so it is not available to purchase online. It is priced at $6.95- very affordable. These masks must be refrigerated and do have an expiration date. I kind of dig that, the fact that it lasts a few weeks pushes me to pamper myself a couple times a week. Also note that after you have five empty pots you can bring in to get a free fresh face mask.

What’s your Lush addiction?

Product Rave: Kate Somerville Exfolikate

Kate Somerville at ShopStyle

How I love Exfolikate……let me count the ways. I have used Kate’s “in home facial”  for well over a year. I sing praises every single time I use it. This method of high powered exfoliation delivers clear pores, brightens skin and leaves a healthy glow.

Exfolikate, gives me instant gratification. I apply it on a cleansed face, while I am in the shower. I feel it tingle- but not to the point of being uncomfortable. I let it sit for about two minutes and then wash it away. My skin instantly feels smoother.Beyond the initial smoothness that I felt, I experienced cumulative benefits. For starters it minimizes breakouts, and it accelerates the effectiveness of all other serums I use. Hyperpgimentation is slowly becoming a thing of the past and I have no fine lines any where on my face at this tender age of 30.

Here is what the folks at Kate Somerville say the product delivers:

  • Salicylic Acid is designed to balance hydration, without over-drying.
  • Scrubbing Microbeads and the three powerful P’s – Papaya, Pineapple, and
Pumpkin Enzymes – are designed to effectively clean pores.
  • Rosewood and Cinnamon Extracts are combined in an effort to reduce the
    appearance of lines and wrinkles.
  • Aloe Vera, Honey, and Vitamin E smooth and soften skin.

At $85 it is what I would call a “investment”. Trust me on this one folks. If you have tried this before and felt it was a bit too harsh Kate now has the Exfolikate Gentle and a formula for acne. Kate also has Exfolikate for the body.If you use self tanners or desire baby soft skin this is also a must buy. Brilliant I tell you. Next time you are in Sephora ask for a sample, and thank me later.

Here is the full Exfolikate range.
