Product Rave: Belle Butters Unyevu Butter- a must for dry hair and skin

I talked about Belle Butters a couple of months ago here. The products grabbed my interest- handmade and contain great ingredients.

I have had a chance to use a couple of the products in my current routine and I’m impressed! The temperature drop and my color treated hair has been quite the recipe for dry strands.

The Unrevu butter has added and maintained moisture in my hair without leaving it greasy a la Darrel on “Coming to America”. I’ve tried it right after shampooing, on dry hair and using it while twisting my hair. I have found best results came from using on damp hair at night before I go to bed, also on the rare occasion that I twist. The next day I awake to hydrated hair. My hair is color treated and only gets dryer in the winter- this really eases the abuse I put my hair through.

From Tasha, creator of Belle Butters;

I used a super combo of butters: shea, mango and avocado. I then added neem oil which helps relieved an irritated scalp, thickens hair and removes dandruff. Apricot kernel oil is rich in vitamins A and E and sunflower oil retains moisture and is an emollient for the skin.

The prices are reasonable at $12 for 4 oz. I found myself going through this pretty fast. Good news is that Tasha can custom make what your heart desires……I reckon that means I need to super size my next order.

Carm Colors Her Hair! -before + after pics included.

Sigh. It’s been a long time coming…..I colored my hair for years. When I had a relaxer it was “cherry cola” by Jazzing for like YEARS. When I chopped my hair off and went natural semi permanent rinses such as Jazzing didn’t do the trick… It would rinse our the next wash and I didn’t have time for that foolishness. I moved on to permanent and used Clairol textures and tones- a line marketed to women of color. I used blazing burgundy – a pic of that is actually on my facebook page :)

I let the color grow out and what was left I whipped out my shears and chopped it earlier this year.

In a quest for something different I decided to color again, right in my very own bathroom. I thought I grabbed blazing burgundy but it was “ruby rage” and to keep it spicy I also used “honey blonde”.

Ok let’s get to the fun stuff.

I almost forgot to snap a pic before …so you can see a bit of the dye..oops.

Now lets get down and dirty kids.

I did the honey blonde hue last. It has a developer in it and I didn’t want to fry my hair. Notice I worked from the back to the front. Your hair accepts color quicker in the front, so to avoid over processing start in the back.

Voila! I dig the change! FYI- I washed my hair the night before using Shea Moisture. The color must be applied on dry clean hair. After shampooing I  didn’t use any products. After coloring I used the conditioner provided in the kit. Finally I used the Shea Moisture Restorative conditioner as a leave in.

This week my schedule is jammed pack with work and events I will be attending for New York Fashion Week. Expect tons of pics! Be sure to like my facebook page, I will be updating throughout this week. :) I’m excited to try makeup looks with my new color(s).

Here are all the products I used.

Out and About: An Evening at Carol’s Daughter Flagship Store

After work I did the cupid shuffle uptown to Harlem. The occasion? The Diva Lounge hosted an event at   Carol’s Daughter,  showcasing new products within the already awesome line.

I have used Carol’s Daughter for several years now so I was quite an eager beaver. Lisa Price was on hand with a GORGEOUS blow out. She used products from the Macadamia line to get flowy tresses sans heat damage.

After I use up a few of the products I have in my bathroom (it’s tragic people) I will be most certainly going back for her Olive Infusion set as well as the Macadamia Hold and Control Smoother. If you have ever had the pleasure of using CD you know the scents are always amazing! These new comers are no different.

Here are some pics I managed to snap while mingling.

This looks like a sure bet for folks who are transitioning as well as those looking for soft manageable hair.

Looking for a sculpted yet soft hold? This looks promising!

My homie Caprece copped the Macadamia Smoother (waits patiently for her to try)

Snazzy.

If you have never tried Carol’s Daughter I beg of thee to give them a whirl. Here are some products I really like.

Carm’s blowout and the aftermath (pics included)

Kinda sorta. Last Saturday I decided I would do a “length check” before I cut my hair. I never use heat, primarily because I am lazy as hell.Keep in mind I no longer have any of the proper tools here to do a proper blow out.lol. I don’t even own a paddle brush. It turned out poofy and there was no way I was going to try flat ironing. After I was done I was sweating like a farm animal. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Cantu Leave in Conditioner +Carm gives herself a trim.

I have used a few of Cantu’s product for sometime now. I have passed by Cantu Shea Butter Leave in Conditioning Repair Cream 6011 times, but after reading about it on MoptopMaven’s review I thought I should give it a go. So after shampooing and conditioning in the shower the other day, I applied it section by section. Then I followed up with Vatika Frosting on the ends. The result the next day? Cotton soft hair! The real test was 2nd day hair. It was still just as soft. I would not consider this a styling aid. So as far as order of application I would use this first and proceed with any styling aids (gel, pomades, etc).

Other things I used

After my shampoo I also decided to trim my hair. I am still in the process of growing out the color in my hair. The sun really does a number on the part that has been color treated. So after  I had it in a few twists I snipped off about half an inch off each twist. I managed to cut off some ratty looking ends, and I’m closer to having my hair back to its natural color.

Long day, so yeah, My face is greasyyyy. But as you can see, you can’t even tell I cut it at all.

Your Hair is Awesome….A reason for Carm to be in Baltimore.

See you there! I heart B-more and Oyin :p

Summertime Hair Care.

I live for summer. It means less clothes, more sun exposure, the beach and……….SWEAT. I thought I would share what my hair regimen consists of during these hot months, as I don’t have to do as much as colder months here in the Northeast.

I co-wash in the shower every other day, and detangle using a wide tooth comb. I generally just pat it with a microfiber towel. After that I will moisturize with Miss Jessie’s Curly Buttercreme. Next I usually follow up with some time of styling aid, or something that will define/control frizz like Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel , its cheap and can be found at just about any beauty supply store….. And that’s about it! The co-wash frequency is what really changes,I sweat a lot and stinky hair is really not what I am after. My hair also as dry as it is doesn’t need as much moisture, as winter. When that time rolls around I will let you all know what that regimen consists of.

I included a current  pic of my hair , at its current length.Almost arm pit length when straightened (which I won’t do unless someone does it for me lazy). I just co-washed, so this shot is without product.Excuse the craptastic pic, it was taken with my blackberry.

Below are some other staples I enjoying  using ,Organix, is a great line that I have been using for some time now.

Lori Taylor+ Hair Envy at the Make up Show

Sorry guys for the late posts about the make up show. It’s been a little nuts around my way. Lori Taylor is the lead make up artist at Smashbox. Her work is amazing, but, I must say I was stuck on her hair. I had a chance to stalk her about her regimen and who styles her tresses. She doesn’t have a set regimen, I do remember her saying that she uses products with olive oil. She has a stylist that she sees regularly at the Warren Tricomi salon in L.A. I forget the name of the stylist (my life is a circus right now), but what I do remember is that she is Latina and an expert at cutting ethnic hair. A trait that is hard to come by. Many want to blow out our hair then cut it, when it really should be cut in the state that you naturally wear it in. I haven’t “:worn” mine straight in over 3 years.

Lori let me touch her hair and although it is obviously color treated, it was was soft as cotton! Her glasses were fly as hell also.

I will have more posts and pictures about The Make Up show in the next week.
