Gettin’ Festive: 20+ Clutches For Your Night Out

Maybe it’s because I’m getting old? I just can’t be bothered with more than a small bag when being a party animal. Anything more than a clutch  or small bag becomes too cumbersome and takes away from the rest of the ensemble. My current faves are a couple different envelope clutches; they are compact yet large enough to hold my phone, a couple cosmetic items, business card case, and a tiny pair of flats.

Check out these clutches aand minaudieres.

What is your go to bag for a night out on the town? Do you carry something small?

Current Obsession: The J.Crew Edie Tote

I’m approaching the time of the year where not only do I want to toss everything in my closet on to my lawn, I am only feeling a few of my handbags. Admittedly I do own several purses, but I think it’s time for a new “everyday” bag. You know, one that fits my makeup bag, phone, a magazine, a current book, wallet and a host of other nonsense. The handbag should also be something that I don’t have to fuss with, stylish- yet functional.

I also can not spend more than $500 on my next bag.

Enter the Edie Tote.

I need this. The structure is spot on with what I need in a bag. It zips across the top, making all of your items accessible, yet hard for someone to unzip and get into while your riding the train.

It is currently available in two colors- red and black.

The Deets: Diane von Furstenburg’s Harper Connect Handbag at Lucky FABB

Diane gladly shared with us the run down of her grab for the day. Most of which was  her namesake. Her bad ass bag was no exception- the Harper Connect. It was cool, and the craftsmanship was impeccable. Wait til you see the “secret compartment”

Here is a video of her showing us.

I can’t get enough of a great handbag. My  oh my how I have been the dark! Diane has oodles of great bags. Santa….if you love me send me some DVF. I beg of thee.

What I Wore: Asos Midi Dress and Vintage Aigner

I am finally back in my humble abode here in Queens! I went back home to Cincinnati for a long weekend and had a great time with family and friends. I attended my sister in law’s baby shower and of course I ate like a water buffalo.

No need to beat a dead horse about my weight gain. I chose a dress that was inexpensive, comfortable and covered all of my body parts. I tell you Asos is on their A game lately………..

Here are details on my dress:

I scored these Sam Edelman wedges a few years ago at an LF sale. Love how the leather on the wedge is tooled.

My Etienne Aigner bag was given to me a few years ago by my great grandmother….It is at least 30 years old. I love it!

My watch is actually a men’s watch by Invicta..I really dig chunky over-sized watches so I copped a men’s one and had 6 links taken out.

I have been without wifi while I was away, so  I am really looking forward to catching up on posts and all the good stuff. Thanks for reading!

What I Wore: Cobalt Blue Envelope clutch with a side of Meow!

I had the pleasure of linking with several of my blogging pals last Friday after work. It is rare that we all get together just to kick it. We went to Negril and it was a nice atmosphere, great music and tasty food :)

It has been awhile since I have been able to do an outfit post. While I don’t think my lil get up was all that, it did a decent job of hiding the fact that I am currently 2o lbs overweight. But my envelope clutch was tres dope! It was a cobalt blue and dirt cheap from asos. Here are a couple of shots I managed to get.

The pants and top were from one of those cheapie stores in Soho. Shoes by Marciano.

The bag added a nice pop of color and gave my otherwise muted outfit some life.

Here are more awesome bags at Asos- who by the way finally have their act together.

Carm’s got a brand new bag! (pics included)

I have been searching high and low for a new bag. Something that is spring/summer appropriate. There have been several from Rebecca Minkoff, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, etc that have made my eyes twinkle….But let me level with you guys. I am in the process of furnishing my apartment.I can not longer justify spending $700+ on bags. I feel silly having a closet full of nice bags, cool shoes and my place looks my undergrad dorm. So it’s sofas and duvets before Vuitton. I reckon you do get wiser with age.

While I was on vacation, I was shopping in Anthropologie and stumbled on a bag that was nice to look at yet very much functional. I thought about it for a few days, then decided to cop. I have been carrying it for a couple weeks now and I really dig it! Yesterday I met my new pal Sarah  for coffee and she kindly snapped these pics for me. :) Check out her site!

I love that it has handles and also a shoulder strap. The leather is like BUTTAH! The bag is made by Schuler and Son’s. As you may know, Anthro carries many indie designers and many other items that you won’t find any where else. I went back a couple times this week to get various things for my apartment. Love that place.

In the market for a cool bag and don’t want to break the bank? Check these out.

A fashionable backpack.

I haven’t worn a backpack since high school. In college I managed to schlep around campus with a messenger bag, it felt more adult-like. So yes, I guess I am taking it back to when I was a wee lad.

Except I am seeing more en vogue backpacks…you know, grown up, sophisticated- Read the rest of this entry »

Sometimes $1500 for a handbag just won’t work.

Yeah … $1500 could be better spent on things such as a month and a half of rent… or maybe a vacay to Europe.

For those of you who love handbags there are designers who have come to the rescue for us trying to ration a buck or two. Right now I would be buying new furniture, artwork, etc for my crib. That is until I stroll through a boutique and a hot bag catches my eye. Why can’t I have it all!?

Since I can not live like I’m in undergrad anymore I have to get creative with how I spend my coins. Most of you are aware of Marc By Marc Jacobs. You can acquire Marc Jacobs pieces without the hefty price tags of Marc Jacobs. Chloe had me obsessing over her Paddington bag years ago- you know, the bag adorned with the huge padlock.People couldn’t get enough, and the bags started at $1500 and went upwards to $3k.

See by Chloe has the same idea. You can score a luxe bag without the $1500 plus price point. Perhaps it may not have the exclusivity as the Paddington or the “status” of the Marcie; but you still get great quality, supple leather and a bag you can carry forever.

Here are some of my current faves:

What is your limit for a designer bag?

Must be love.

Have you ever really wanted something. Like REALLY wanted something. You think of why it would make sense to splurge on it. Why it would be an “investment”, how many months of rent, car payment, vacations, etc it would replace. Then eventually you forget about these said things. Except sometimes I literally still think about them. Let me introduce you to year(s) old obessions. First up Chloé Paraty medium leather bag. Need I explain why? Of course not. It could fit all my regular “purse” things. Work stuff, etc.

Next is Chloe Heloise Large Tote. If loving this bag is wrong,I don’t want to be right. Chloe, Call me!

Sadly. These are equivalent to a month’s rent and a car payment. A girl can dream………………..
